COMMUNITY GROUPS BENEFIT FROM LATEST ROUND OF GRANT FUNDING
Five groups in Caithness & North Sutherland have been awarded grant funding following the Caithness & North Sutherland Fund’s latest round of grants. One of the groups was Dunbeath & District Centre who was awarded £4,181 towards improving the Centre’s kitchen equipment. The community health and wellbeing facility provides a vital role in assisting the 50 + age group to continue to live in their own homes within the community, enhancing their quality of life through social contact and a range of participative activities. It has over one hundred registered users and provides hot meals with tea, coffee and home-baking four days per week also opening as an emergency centre during power outages and road closures. Margaret Sutherland, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees said ‘everyone at the Centre are extremely pleased to have been awarded a grant as the Centre’s old fridge, dishwasher, cooker and ovens are in real need of replacement. The new equipment brings our kitchen equipment up to date, delivering a legacy project that will ensure a functioning kitchen for many years to come.’
CNSFund Chair Frances Gunn said ‘The valuable contribution that Dunbeath District Centre staff and volunteers are delivering within their community is commendable and is another great example of how groups are making long term improvements to the quality of life for people living in the Dounreay travel to work area. The CNSFund is committed to playing its part in supporting worthy improvement projects and we encourage groups to consider how they can make a significant contribution to help ensure a sustainable future.’
