PR-Grant Awards 2017-R1 2016-R4
The CNSFund committed over £140k to community groups in Caithness & North Sutherland in a recent allocation of grants. Funded by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, CNSFund has given money to a wide range of community-led projects throughout the Dounreay travel to work area. Ten community groups have benefitted from the latest rounds of funding.
Farr Edge 2000 has been granted £27,354 towards the cost of carrying out a two year programme to develop its children and youth services and improve the organisation’s future sustainability.
Mhairi Magee, Farr Edge 2000 Director said “We are a local charity promoting community and educational activities for young people of all ages. This includes numerous community based initiatives such as running workshops and youth clubs that provide a range of recreational and leisure activities. The grant from the CNSFund will help us to appoint a Development Manager to take Farr Edge forward by coordinating current activities and developing new services. This will include intergenerational activities as well as options that will improve our long term sustainability.”
Frances Gunn, CNSFund Chairperson said “The CNSFund has committed over £1.6m to 129 improvement projects. Our latest funding awards support a wide range of worthy community projects across the Caithness and North Sutherland area that help to ensure a sustainable future.’’
Other CNSFund grants awarded recently are: £19,807 to Latheronwheel & Latheron Improvement Group to refurbish the Latheronwheel play park area; £18,834 to Friends of the John O’ Groats Trail to produce a walking trail map, create a website and improve the John O’ Groats Trail; £15,000 to Laidhay Preservation Trust towards refurbishing the Laidhay Museum car park; £15,000 to 1st Wick Scout Group to refurbish and upgrade the Wick Scout hall facilities; £13,189 to Strathnaver Museum for a volunteer management project; £11,285 to Mackay Country Community Trust for a Rob Donn Trail Project that will create a heritage trail of interpretive boards across Mackay Country; £10,000 to Clan Gunn Heritage Trust to refurbish the Clan Gunn Heritage Centre exhibition area; £5,913 to Forsinard Fly Fishers Club towards new fishing boats and equipment; £4,194 to Brough Bay Association for a structural survey and technical specification for the Brough Bay harbour development project.
